As Francesca Alfano Miglietti notes: “At the heart of their work lies a reflection on the body as a

political, poetic, and symbolic space. In their photographs, there is no stable or definitive identity;

rather, the human figure appears as matter in transformation, an organism traversed by cultural

tensions, desires, vulnerabilities, and ongoing processes of self-redefinition.”

She continues: “The legacy of performance practices, post-identity theories, and the cultural

transformations that shaped the latter half of the twentieth century quietly permeates these

images. Luigi & Iango absorb these complexities into a visual grammar composed of fragments,

suspensions, and disjunctions, where portraiture becomes both a site of revelation and a source of

unease.”Moreno Zani, founder of Tenderstories, states: “The exhibition is conceived around a reflection on

the need for a poetic escape from spectacle, a reflection that becomes an exploration of the human

body as a barometer of contemporary times, where identity is both a choice and a possibility. The

poetic dimension, together with the narrative one, characterizes the entire exhibition.”

He adds: “The appropriation of diverse languages—both specifically artistic and more broadly

social—brings the boundaries of different codes into collision, leading to unexpected outcomes. The

exhibition thus develops as a complex dramaturgy rich in reference to multiple sources. At times, it

draws upon the tradition of reportage; at others, it embraces a poignant and melancholic poetic

sensibility, or the language of compassion. The defining characteristic of all the works is their

absolute engagement with reality, as each piece draws upon materials drawn from life itself.”

On the occasion of the exhibition, a catalogue will be published featuring reproductions of all

exhibited works, an essay by Francesca Alfano Miglietti, a conversation between the curator and

the artists, and additional critical texts.

The exhibition is realized in collaboration with Inside Art, directed by Guido Talarico.

Luigi & Iango (Luigi Murenu and Iango Henzi) are an Italian-Swiss photographic duo. Since beginning

their collaboration, they have created more than 300 covers for various international editions of the

world’s leading fashion magazines.

Their work has been featured in numerous art publications, exhibition catalogues, and museum

exhibitions, including the major touring retrospective dedicated to Thierry Mugler at the Montreal

Museum of Fine Arts (2019), Kunsthal Rotterdam (2020), Hypo-Kunsthalle Munich (2020), Musée

des Arts Décoratifs in Paris (2021), Brooklyn Museum (2022), as well as solo exhibitions at the French

Pavilion for Expo 2020 Dubai and at Palazzo Reale in Milan (2023).

Known as FAM, Francesca Alfano Miglietti is one of Italy’s most influential voices on contemporary

art and cultural transformation. A professor at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan, she is the

author of more than twenty books exploring various aspects of contemporary art theory.

She has curated exhibitions and conferences for numerous international museums and galleries and

was the founder and editor-in-chief of Virus Mutations, a landmark publication in the cultural

discourse of the early twenty-first century.
